The author describes the concept of statistical theory and its utilization in communication system design. The main topic of the paper is antijam communication systems created for the Signal Corps. Four such systems are described, the F96, the Wozencraft iterated Coding System (WICS), the Matched Filter Communication System and a system known as Kathryn based on wholesale signal processing using delay line recirculators.
