Applies a modified Bubnov-Galerkin method to analyse multi-dimensional temperature fields and piecewise-linear media as machine structural parts. Considered are auxiliary drives of electric locomotives and AC trains when artificial asymmetry is used for satisfactory voltage and current symmetry in the active load range. A self-ventilated phase-splitter is taken as an example. A function describing the temperature field of an idealised design is replaced by a boundary-value problem.
