Capacitive discharge ignition has one defect which cannot be overcome without increasing the complexity of the equipment, and that is the short duration of the spark which is not suitable for all types of engine operations. The proposed solution consists in making the duration of the spark comparable with that of inductive discharge ignition by capacitive discharge operation followed by switching discharge to prolong the duration of ignition of ignition in a satisfactory manner.
