In view of future space missions, the present paper aims at establishing guidelines for the design of modular fluid loop radiator systems for thermal and temperature control by use of a multiobjective Non-Linear Programming approach. The procedure enables the selection and design of modular flat plate central fin tube radiator segments to meet thermophysical and environmental requirements under minimum mass geometries; simultaneously, the minimum power required by the pump package operating within the system is also established. Case studies are analyzed reflecting intrinsic performance characteristics of centrifugal and volumetric units on the assessment of both the number and layout (parallel of series) of radiator segments required for a given thermal load. Though, as expected, there are significant differences as well as many areas of agreement in the various facets of a multiobjective optimization, both findings and conclusions of this study demonstrate the practical viability of the approach in supporting a decision.
