The United States Coast Guard has initiated a program to develop stability standards for high-performance craft when operating at high speed. This paper summarizes the first phase of this work. Types of hazard and types of instability to which such craft can be subjected are reviewed. Corresponding approaches to stability assessment are recommended. (Wassmann)
