An experimental study of the sound field of 1/4 scale general aviation propellers has been completed. The results of these experiments, along with a comparison of the wake surveys and pressure signature to the theoretical calculations, are presented. The calculations are both aerodynamic and acoustic. Given the airfoil section properties the blade loading is calculated using a modified strip analysis procedure. The important contribution is the acoustic calculation. This is done by modeling the propeller as an array of point sources with each point characterized by the force and motion of the associated propeller section. Accurate results are obtained over a variety of operating conditions, tip speeds and propeller nacelle combinations. No empirical adjustments are used. All calculations are made given only the shape and motion of the propeller. (Wassmann)
