A technical and economic assessment is described of the generation of electricity using wind turbine generators located in shallow waters off the coast of the United Kingdom. The assessment involved studies of siting criteria, meteorology, sea surface conditions, engineering geology, construction materials, support structures, marinisation of complete installations, cluster efficiency, electrical transmission and control, availability and environmental aspects. Estimates of generation costs are quoted and some of the results of an analysis of the influence of various parameters on generation cost and performance are described. (Wassmann)
