A full power hydraulic braking system now being used in City buses is illustrated together with slides of the various items of equipment in the system. The design of the various units is explained and the system basic specification is given together with comments and the advantages offered by the equipment. The foundations brakes are not considered but the system is suitable for use with the various types available such as cam, internal cylinder and disc. An analogy is drawn with the equivalent full air pressure system and because both systems have been operated in service on the same bus type precise comparisons of equipment size, weights and braking response times are possible. Reference is made to centralised checking of the system, a feature which permits the various system pressures and warning devices to be monitored and maintained from a single convenient location. Finally various advancements are mentioned including the integration of braking as part of a central hydraulic system experience of which has been gained from a prototype installation evaluated in service.
