A prototype expert system, designed to assist in the repair of the electronic fuel control systems used in General Motors carburetor engines, is presented. Detailed discussions of the engine system and its behavior are included, along with a description of the expert system and its operation. Examples of solutions to driveability problems are supplemented by control system information and descriptions of the diagnostic information provided by the expert system.
