This letter describes an electrooptical technique for generating the spatial fourier transforms of video images in real time. When suitable filtered, these fourier transforms allow to reconstruct and display the pictorial content of the video signal with its noise components much reduced in intensity and, in certain instances, suppressed entirely. An experimental setup to achieve this is described, its mode of operation explained, and preliminary results are presented. the ultimate goal of these investigations is the on-line elimination of noise in spaceship-to-earth video communications.
