Neutron radiography is being used on a production basis to examine the internal details of ordnance employed in the apollo program. Ordnance objects range from charges which separate the massive booster stages to those which trigger the release of re-entry parachutes. Neutron radiography is similar to radiography, but has among its unique capabilities the ability to distinguish and determine hydrogen-bearing material within metallic structures. It is this feature that makes neutron radiography a necessary inspection tool for the nondestructive testing of apollo ordnance.
