Tuning of a ball-in-tube nutation damper can be achieved by merely inclining the tube's plane of curvature with respect to the spin axis of the satellite. This suggest the possibility of using a cost-saving universal damper suitable for satellites with different geometrical and mass properties. Two types of universal damper are discussed in detail: the meridian type with a radius of curvature of about 4 m and the equatorial type with a smaller radius.
