The new Schottel Pump-Jet is designed for marine propulsion in shallow waters < 0.5 m depth and for nonstandard applications. It can be used as maneuvering aid in the bow and can provide forward trust There is no risk to damage by grounding or floating debris. Improvements by using larger flow areas provide the same statc trust for about 20 % less power. A new diffuser system replaces the impeller used until now and converts kinetic energy into pressure energy. The intake-impeller-diffuser assembly, the nozzle section, the blades, and the sealing were optimized for higher efficiencies and reduced weight. The prototype SPJ 57 provides a static trust of two tons with a power output of 250 kW, which is an improvement of about 17 % compared to the previous model.
