As the problem of the wheel-rail interaction is of great importance for investigators working in the field of railway vehicle dynamics, it is interesting to compare the results obtained by various approaches used to solve the problem. Two different methods are used to deal with the geometric contact problem and the determination of the interaction forces between wheel and rail. A discussion of the results closes the paper.
