As hydrocarbon production is now contemplated for larger and larger water depths, the technical issues related to the import of the fluid stream onboard the floating production facility have to be well resolved. The hybrid riser concept, as developed today, brings a technically and commercially viable solution to this problem. The purpose of the present paper is to describe the latest developments achieved on the hybrid riser technology. The concept presented here is different than that developed for the Girassol field located offshore Angola as it incorporates improvements which have been made after the detailed design of the Girassol unit was completed. The paper gives details on overall geometry and governing criteria for the sizing of the system. Overall fabrication and installation procedures are also presented as well as the main results of the dynamic behaviour of the system when installed on its final location.
