The paper deals with simultaneous rotor speed estimation and rotor resistance identification in field-oriented induction motor drive systems using only the induction motor model, with emphasis on evaluating its performances needed in applications for direct driven electric vehicles. The study of the simultaneous speed and rotor resistance estimator has been performed together with a reduced order flux observer. Because of its strict destination to direct driven electric vehicles, two control strategies have been studied in comparison: the simultaneous speed and reistance estimation, and the speed estimation only, together with a flux observer with higher robustness to the parameter variation. The performances of the proposed drive system have been tested in normal and low speed operation regime.
