The Virtual Test Track was developed to enable vehicle dynamics simulations of highly detailed multi-body vehicle models on 3-Dimensional test tracks. It is a combination of breakthrough technologies integrated into the Ford corporate CAE tool for vehicle dynamics, ADAMS/Pre and ADAMS/RaceCar. The significant breakthrough's are the ability to measure and represent a 3D road surface and a corresponding computationally efficient 3D tire-road model. This technology is currently being used in Motorsports and production Vehicle Center's to simulate Ford cars and trucks on Ford test tracks and it has also been extended into other disciplines such as occupant safety studies.
