As shown in this paper, the previous cell generation performances have been drastically improved over this past year by concentrating on the optimization of the cell electrochemical definition. A new product has been defined and tested that shows very promising performances in terms of cycle life, high rate and low temperature behavior as well as ability to be used in high voltage system, due to the low dispersion of its performances. A first demonstrator was built with the previous cell generation that shows that the use of supercapacitor in electric vehicle system allows a better recovery of the braking energy. All these data show that the supercapacitor is an interesting device for applications with short time windows (below 10 s) and could also help conventional energy storage systems to be more efficient.
