The problems encountered in activities associated with the life cycle of gas plants -in the core business sectors of GDF (Gas de FRance)- demonstrate the need to access this know-how in a practical an efficient way for an optimise use and operation of these gas plants. Simulation is an excellent tool for this know-how. It requires to use methods and technologies of Artificial Intelligence and objects in particular. The operation help tools and prototypes have been developed with the co-operation and investment of a small software company and derive from the commitment and desire of a number of experts and their senior managers to prepare the future and invest in the durability of know-how in the company's core business sectors. The article presents the software which GDF uses to support their business. The software aids the operation of the gas network and gas plants and supports the maintenance works. The software determines the special procedures for the maintenance and how the maintenance should be done. There is a direct access to the documents of the equiment form the side of the design as well as from the side of the operator. Developements of the work can be made visible. The user of the software is directed either through the activities or hierarchical through the plant. The operation of the network and its connections are supported through modeling and simulation of the network. Strategies of demand can be simulated and the pressures can be changed. Too, the software helps the operation of the desulfirization and dehydration plants and the transmission with simulation and modeling and can be documented.
