Dynamic stability and transient behavior optimization are searched for a multi-output DC-DC converter that includes a very low voltage output. The cascaded connection of three regulated switching converters, related to the generation of the low voltage output by synchronous commutation implies the solution to a complex problem of circuit dynamics. A dedicated CAD tool turns out to be well suited for this task. The performances of Fredomsim (Simulation and Modeling in the Frequency Domain of Switched Networks) can be fully appreciated in this case where it has been operated jointly with two popular software tools: PSpice and Matlab. A meaningful cascaded DC-DC converter prototype has been developed and experimental results are reported and compared with forecasts from the computer simulations.
