A semiactive magnetorheological (MR) engine mount was proposed and its vibration control performances were evaluated by considering a full-vehicle model. After verifying that the damping force of the MR engine mount can be controlled by the intensity of the input current, the hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) system consisting of the full-vehicle model, the hardware and the interface part was constructed. It has been demonstrated through the implementation of the semiactive skyhook controller that both displacement and acceleration at engine C.G. point are favourably suppressed by activating the three MR engine mounts. In addition, it was shown that the acceleration level at the driver's position can be considerably reduced by employing the control input current to the MR engine mounts. The results presented in this work are quite self-explanatory justifying that the semiactive MR engine mount can be effectively applicable to passenger vehicles to control unwanted vibrations from the engine operation.
