The increasing electrification of vehicles leads to an increased need for electrical power. Especially new systems like x-by-wire, active cruise control, or electromagnetic valve controls put demands on the power distribution system, that cannot be easily fulfilled in today's 12V technology. This lead to the development of the 42V PowerNet. Advantages of the 42V PowerNet (compared to the 12V technology) are: - maximum power that can be distributed is tripled (7-10 kW instead of 2-3.5 kW); - costs for semi-conductors are minimized; - less weight of the wiring harness for the same power. During the introduction of the 42V PowerNet into mass production, it is assumed that the mitigation to 42V is not done in one step but there will be still 12V devices mounted in the vehicles. This lead to several concepts of 14V/42V dual voltage power nets. Mostly it is assumed that power generation will be at 42V and the 12V (or 14V) is transformed by either a big central DC/DC-converter or small converters directly at the 12V devices. With the use of PWM-drivers it would be possible to use the 12V bulbs in a 42V system. These drivers sure can be also implemented centralized or de-centralized to meet a system cost optimum. Mostly the PWM frequency is chosen in the range of several kHz up to some tens of kHz. In the paper the changes and challenges for the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) of 42V PowerNet Components and Systems are discussed. It was shown that only the emission and immunity requirements for transients need more detailed investigations. The results of these investigations performed by AK 767.1 3.6 within DKE were presented. In essence the EMC requirements for 42V systems differ only slightly from those of 12V systems. Since the emission requirements seem to be most difficult to meet, two examples of successful de-noising of switched-mode power supplies were reported: a 1 kW-DC/DC-converter and PWM-driven DC-motors.
