In the field of aluminium wire drawing final products are mainly power cable. An important development of the last years is the production of wire out of aluminium-magnesium-alloys to be used as shielding wire. For this application the diameter range varies from 0,10 to 0,20 mm, an area where fine wire drawing machines are used. As the actual machines are not able to produce the required quantity of wire the machine manufacturer have started developing multi wire machines for this application. Due to the decision of the car manufacturer to change the battery voltage from 12 V to 42 V and to relocate the position of the battery - then located close to the centre of the car - there are strong efforts to change the wiring system of the car from copper conductors to aluminium conductors mainly because of weight reduction. This again leads to a high interest in drawing aluminium wire in multi wire technique to satisfy the expected future needs of the industry. Aluminium wire up to today is drawn mainly in so called single wire machines processing only one wire per time. As the requirements are not the highest ordinary oils can be used for this application. The change from single to multi wire technique means that the lubricant manufacturer have to develop totally new lubricants which are able to match these - high - new demands.
