This paper presents experimental results for detection of a moving helicopter under a passive, bistatic measurement configuration with non-cooperative, i.e. a priori unknown, target illumination. The benefits of a high speed sampling wideband digital ESM receiver are exploited to analyze the parameters of the intercepted data, giving details of the illuminating signal that are required for detection and Doppler processing of the moving target. Conventional Doppler processing is extended to combined time-Doppler-analysis of the data. Time delays and Doppler shifts of the echoes can be estimated with the presented signal processing even with non-constant pulse repetition interval of the illumination.
