Remote Environmental Monitoring Units (REMUS), Autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) entered the commercial offshore survey market when two unit were purchased by a service company Fugro. The vehicle contains a number of inherent advantages over many other competitive towed vehicles in the shallow water commercial survey market. The REMUS is 160cm long and has a diameter of 19cm and weighs 37kg in air and has a maximum operating depth of 100m. The REMUS carries a large payload of sensors for both surveying and allowing the vehicle to navigate as required.
