The aim of this article is to propose pocketing tool path optimization methods by adapting the geometry of the tool path to the kinematic performance of high speed machining machine tools. The minimization of the machining time is a major objective which should be taken into account from the tool path generation. To reach this goal the tool path length has to be decreased or the real feed rate increased. But the tool path length can't be minimized and the real feed rate maximised at the same time. The optimal solution is a mix of the two possibilities. Our method proposes to modify the values of the corner radii and to use the polynomial interpolation format in order to increase the real feed rate and to reduce the variations in the radial depth of cut. It brings about a decrease in the tool path length and an increase in the real feed rate in the same time. We study two cases depending on the acceptable variations of the depth of cut. We realize several tests on various machine tools in order to quantify the benefits. Our method is able to reduce the machining time by about 25 %.
