Recently, global warming has become a serious problem. Carbon dioxide, its major causative agent, is released into the air by traffic, which accounted for 20.9% of the total CO2 emissions in 1997. Since fuel consumption has a strong connection to the emission of carbon dioxide, it is not surprising that vehicles were the number one polluter among all means of transportation. Differences in fuel consumption are related not only to differences in vehicle characteristics, but also to differences in the control actions of a driver. Therefore, it is important to analyze the control actions of drivers. This paper is concerned with a driver model of heavy-duty vehicles for longitudinal control using multiple regression analysis. First, as a longitudinal control, modeling of a fore-and-aft operation was constructed for each gear based on experiment data for heavy-duty vehicles. Next, a gear change model was constructed to select a longitudinal control model. Using the factor analysis for the model, the relationship between input and output was analyzed. Finally, the driver's control for longitudinal direction is described using this driver model.
