Overhead presentation. This presentation gives some aspects of the integration and development process for functions and systems in Scania trucks. The possibilities that a CAN communication based electronic truck system gives in terms of distributed functionality and better performance, gives on the other hand invisible dependences between systems that strongly influences the process from development, test, introduction to maintenance. Several new roles have been created to deal with the new electrical system. Besides the traditional software and hardware development engineers a System owner and a Function owner role has been defined. For each electronic unit a System owner is responsible for the hardware behaviour, the system peripheral and the hardware interfaces. The system owner is the author of the System Description document. For each distributed function, i.e. a function that involves more than one system, a Function owner is responsible and the author of the Function Description document. User function, i.e. functions perceptible for the user, is documented in MSCs (Message Sequence Flow Charts) which in the end are linked to the service documentation for the workshops. Functions in the new electrical system are realised in different ways. Internal functions in 'Inhouse' developed ECUs. The test procedure has besides the necessary simulation and system testing a new focus on integration tests. The production preparation includes adaptation of production tools, verification of End of Line and Quality Assurance tools. A production test run takes place before the full run production. The End of Line programming procedure gets data from the Scania production system and can, depending on ECU, be a complete software download, parameter set or calibration data
