In February 2005, Ballard announced that its customers' fuel cell vehicles had logged more than 925,000 km of real world usage in 2004. In January 2005, the U.S. Department of Energy published a detailed document, outlining what it would take for PEMFCs to achieve commercial viability for vehicles. Ballard is driving its technology roadmap to th e targets set out by DOE for 2010, many of which are also consistent with the requirements define by the automotive OEMs. Ballard will execute a technology roadmap to demonstrate in real hardware, at the 3-5 kW level, the stack technology and materials suite as required to meet these 2010 targets, This presentation will address the challenges and provide some insight into the solutions required to achieve the overall objective.
