Strategic alliances in the automotive industry by cross border mergers and capital tie-ups lead to intensification of global collaboration. Market Oriented Concurrent Engineering faces various obstacles that need to be solved. This paper describes the automotive industry in Japan followed by the intercultural differences between Japanese and European/German culture and their relevances for conducting business in Japan. The practical part is a project description of reorganization the supplier integration within a great Japanese OEM, regarding data exchange and the introduction of international standards.
