A novel low viscosity allophanate-containing isocyanate acrylate known as ICA 9000 has been developed, which can be used as building block for dual cure systems as well as for UV monocure urethane acrylates. High throughput screening has been applied as powerful tool for the evaluation of raw materials in UV curable coatings. Urethane acrylates based on the novel acrylate exhibit a significantly lower viscosity than other building blocks, allowing a reduction of solvent in the formulation. Extremely high functionality urethane acrylates based on this acrylate also show excellent chemical and scratch resistance with potential applications as clearcoats for automotive exteriors.
