The relationship between the feedback steering characteristics of the driver and the visual and body sensory information during critical cornering with drift was examined using a driving simulator and a gaze detection device. As a result, the following points have been established. (1) If body sensory is combined with visual information the driver is able to control drift well, because the driver can view the target course more easily as a result of the being able to perceive the body slip angle more easily (2) Because the gaze point is stable when body sensory information is combined with visual information the driver is able to stabilize the behavior of the vehicle in the vicinity of the corner exit by perceiving the roll angle and feeding back the body slip angle in the gaze. (3) Without the motion device the driver gazed directly forward of the vehicle, while with the motion device the driver gazes in the positive direction of the vehicle which is the same as the overall target course for drift driving during drift cornering. Thus, it has been concluded that the driver can feed back the gaze by perceiving the change in the body slip angle not only based on visual information but also by changing the roll according to the body slip angle change with the motion device on. On the other hand, without the motion device it is difficult for the driver to perceive the change in the body slip angle easily, and to get sufficient feedback of the gaze, because the driver receives feedback only by sight. In this paper, though the motion added a similar roll movement to the real driving, the examination of the influence of a lateral acceleration in the drift control is scheduled to be advanced with the motion device which can do a real driving and a lateral movement without the so many senses of incompatibility by the link motion of new driving simulator in the future.
