Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering (EHPS) systems are used as an alternative to Hydraulic Power Steering (HPS) systems in vehicles. The application of sound quality tools, for example loudness and sharpness metrics, and experimental measurements, such as acceleration and sound pressure, in the EHPS design process is investigated in this paper. Acceleration and sound pressure are measured with the EHPS installed in the test stand and the vehicle. These measurements are carried out simultaneously with binaural recordings, where the listener stands beside the EHPS test stand and sits inside the vehicle. Also, this investigation of the EHPS vibro-acoustic performance is carried out by studying the correlation between sound quality metrics of measurements and a jury evaluation of the noise emitted from the EHPS (results of subjective evaluation). Peak resonance appeared above 10kHz in the standby, accelerated fixed and accelerated in movement operational modes for the measurements with the EHPS systems installed in the vehicles ZA and CA. It was not possible to identify these peaks with the EHPS system installed in the test stand, indicating that this noise may be characteristic of the vehicle or of the EHPS/vehicle interaction. Subjectively, it was found that these peaks are uncomfortable. There was a close correlation between the psychoacoustics metrics and the listeners' classification. It was possible to establish a direct and linear relationship between these quantities. Consequently, the psychoacoustics metrics loudness and sharpness are appropriate and consistent tools to quantify the sound quality of EHPS systems for the standby and accelerated operational mode.
