In this paper a theoretical analysis regarding mechanical behaviour of an aerospace part - a nozzle guide vane (NGV) - starting from macro scale effects up to micro scale domain mechanics evaluation is presented. The authors employed the methods available to address a closed loop system for the clamping forces, the part deformation, new simulation aspects of PZT actuators and sensors for fixturing principles of aeronautic structures compared with principles of a smart grinding fixture controller. The FEM allows to analyse workpiece deformation, influence of location errors and fixture deformation. To reduce the time consuming FE-meshing of the free form shaped NGV, a new technique of parametric modelling has been developed. Finally, strategies for new sensor/actor (designed) clamping mechanisms are discussed. A preliminary mechatronic model which is able to reproduce (and predict) the basic multifunctional features of a case-study design within a virtual environment is discussed. In the next steps, experimental investigations to find out the time and localisation depending grinding forces is going to be done and a demonstrator for the presented closed-loop fixing systems is going to be developed.
