The aim of this paper is to present an optimisation method for designing a power electronics inverter for an induction motor drive in automotive applications. After explaining the mechanism behind the bearing and isolation failures, caused by du/dt effects, of induction motor, a mathematical tool for the calculation of power losses in MOSFET-based power electronics converters used in automotive applications, taking into account the production and temperature variations, will be presented. Then, taking into account the du/dt differential-mode and common-mode constraint, an optimised solution will be presented.
