In this paper simplified and detailed Finite Element Analysis (FEA) truck tire models are developed. The simplified tire model is used to examine the interaction between the tire and various types of terrain. Additionally, two soil types have been successfully modeled using solid finite elements. It can be concluded from this study that: 1- The general trends of vertical and longitudinal forces and normal and shear stress distributions in the soft soil are in good agreement with published data for preliminary validation. 2- The predicted cornering characteristics on both rigid and soft soil terrains are in good agreement in trend with published data. 3- The newly developed simplified FEA tire model can be used to validate the soft soil and perform vertical, in-plane soil dynamic predictions in significantly less time than full tire model. 4- A full FEA Off-Road truck drive tire model (MSD 315/80R22.5) is under development and will be used for future studies.
