Already now, the streets, railway systems and ports are, in many cases, overloaded. Currently, transportation experts are overbidding themselves with forecasts and scenarios for the next decades. Everyone expects that traffic will grow exponentially. Apparently, the current financial and economic crisis is just a short stopover to gasp for breath. Which alternatives arise against the background of increasing costs for logisticians in the paper mill in the area of road traffic? In most cases, the increase in the number of transport service providers cannot be controlled using the traditional phone and fax media. As an example, the functioning of the internet platform of Transporeon has proved to work in a very reliable way at Perlen Papier AG. Complete payloads or part loads can be prepared with a superior electronic data processing system and than be transmitted to the internet platform. Depending on the destination, the freight may be released to only some or to all transport service providers. They will quote their prices, the truck booker of the shipper chooses a suitable partner for the released freight. According to the IT infrastructure, the agreed transportation costs can be transferred to the superior electronic data procession system. Instead of an elaborate invoice control, transport can also be handled via credit memo procedure. This way the administration work is reduced substantially. Since the introduction in Scandinavia and tests in the Netherlands and Northern Germany, erveryone is talking about the Gigaliner. The truck has a length of 25,25 m and a permitted gross weight of 60 t and would allow an optimisation of freight space capacity. The efficiency increase enabled by Gigaliners would thus test the rentability of rail. Approaches to optimise communication with improved traffic management systems are on their way and telematics is another contribution to efficiency. The container concept for the transport of recovered paper: a cooperation between SBB Cargo, Infofraight and Perlen Papier has developed a container concept for the transport of recovered paper in single car shipping. The decisive factor of this project: the wheels have to turn. The goal was to achieve a transfer rail/rail as well as street/rail with the same freight costs as maximum. The subjects presented are integral components for the logistic activities of Perlen Papier AG.
