An online condition monitoring process is an important aspect concerning design and optimization of systems. Additionally, it would improve safety and operating costs of most mechanical systems, because durability of critical system-components is observed during operation on the basis of standard measured data. In this paper a case study with a demo truck and trailer is presented. On the basis of measured accelerations at one component the motion of another component is simulated and a rainflow counting is made. An important element of the real-time simulation model is a multibody system model of the observed system. All relevant real-time simulation and online condition monitoring features as well as their co-operation in the complete process-chain are discussed, also with respect to onboard simulation requirements. Further investigations deal with the real-time simulation of multibody system models on onboard processors.
