This paper described the design of an active seat suspension. In a first step the mechanical construction with two slides and all components were described. Afterwards, the physical models of the seat and the driver were presented based on the designed active suspension system with two degrees of freedom. In a further step, two control approaches - a feed forward control and a hybrid vibration control - were introduced and designed. Measurements during test runs on synthetic test tracks showed that the comfort can be improved by about 39% in comparison with a passive seat for the vertical dynamics and by 16% for the lateral dynamics, which improves the drivers well-being. Caused by the small available relative displacement in lateral direction, the vibrations especially in the lower frequency range, cannot be suppressed as well as in vertical direction due to the specific characteristics of the weighting functions in the lower frequency domain. Finally the measurements for different excitations shows an improvement of the exposure time of up to factor three.
