ISO 26262, Functional safety is being deployed into automotive E/E system development process since its first edition was issued on 15 Nov. 2011. Meanwhile, the freedom from interference between software elements and software partitioning required in ISO 26262-6 is so difficult concept and technique that automotive software engineers face difficulties in their implementation phase because 1. there is no standard methods for software safety analysis and safety design verification, 2. safety mechanism for software (memory) partitioning such as AUTOSAR O.S (SC3) with MPU(Memory Protection Unit) usually causes additional software overhead, 3. software development with the highest ASIL process(ASIL Lift-up) w/o implementing software partitioning requires additional development effort. Therefore, JAS PAR Functional Safety System WG has elaborated the process for software safety analyses and safety design verification for software partitioning in the collaboration with Nagoya University and exida (EU and US). The process is based on the combination of SW-FTA and SW-FMEA+HAZOP focusing on the cascading failure between software elements and 3 types of shared resource: memory, execution time, communication that propagates failures to the other software element. And JASPAR has also specified various safety measures for software partitioning named "Safety Integrity Mechanism (SIM)" and "Safety Process Measure (SPM)", which can be applied with a wide range of automotive systems and hardware.
