With the introduction of alternative transportation concepts based on partially or even fully electrified vehicles power electronics is gaining more and more importance in the automotive sector. The demands for power electronics are manifold and concerns besides aspects such as energy efficiency, cooling and costs especially reliability issues. Here, new concepts like vehicle-to-grid (V2G) lead to even tougher requirements, since parts of the electronics (e.g. the charging system) are now also in operation during the standing time of the vehicle. To deal with these challenges, a comprehensive reliability assessment is needed including adequate reliability testing techniques, whereas in case of power electronics so called active power cycling tests (APCT) are state-of-the-art. In this paper, a newly developed APCT bench with the ability to perform customizable reliability tests on various kinds of power modules and components will be presented.
