In this paper, the authors consider the adoption of an X-Y type LIM to a railway switch system as an above-the-ground primary system, deriving the equation of motion of a vehicle model by building a model of the switch system, and analyze the motion characteristic. As a result, an equation of the switch orbit has been derived, and making its solution dimensionless, the authors clarify the relation in switching performance between a switch using LIM and a vehicle model, and demonstrate the technical feasibility.
