Automotive experts know that there exists a conflict in building vehicles which are comfortable in ride and safe in driving stability too. Ride comfort generally requires reduced damping and spring forces, whereas good handling and stability properties are achieved with increased damping and spring rate. The aim of the active suspension control system is to adapt the forces acting between vehiclebody and wheels to the different driving situations. This will be achieved by a closed loop system, where up to 32 sensors supply their information about the driving conditions to a transputer network. The network is responsible for digital filtering of input signals, calculating the actuator forces and controlling the hydraulic devices. This realtime loop will be performed within 1 ms.
