This fifth annual report on EV battery testing under simulated real-world operating conditions provides valuable information for battery and EV manufacturers, research planners, and utilities conducting EV demonstration programs. The results of these tests will facilitate the selection of battery systems for EVs now under development. For example, on the basis of these results, developers have selected the nickel-iron battery for use in the Chrysler TEVan, scheduled to enter commercial production in a few years. The ongoing in-vehicle test project will evaluate and report on other batteries - such as the nickel-iron, sodium-sulfur, and lithium-sulfide batteries - as they move toward commercialization.
