This paper deals with the space borne synthetic aperture radar (SAR) to be launched on the Japanese Earth Resources Satellite-1. The SAR is to be operated in L band. Mission purpose is mainly dedicated for geological applications. The ground resolution of the processed image is to be designed as 18 m. Off nadir angle is 35 degrees. Key system parameter design and performance are presented.
