Battery charging of electric vehicles is by far one of the most crucial issues facing potential EV automobile manufacturers. No definite standards have been set yet, although discussions are underway and guidelines have been proposed. In particular, the debate regarding the interface to the ac power grid for charging ist not settled. Two contacts, and inductive charging where magnetic induction is used for energy transfer. The issues of safety, cost, universal compatibility and customer acceptance will play a major role in deciding which technology will be used. This paper will address inductive charging technology. Important advantages of inductive charging include the elimination conductive techniques. In addition, inductive charging makes it possible for the interface to operate over a wide range of power levels and frequencies with the same on board charging port.
