In control problems it is possible to achieve signal smoothing to a great extent free of phase lag and minimisation of sensoric expense with Kalman filters. The controllers in semi-active suspensions have a defect in feedback of controller output into the estimator because of nonlinear damping force generation. The inadequacies are measured and graphically represented. To reduce failures it is suggested to pay attention to good tuning between controller and estimator. If necessary the estimator model has to be extented by delay in damping force generation. The consideration of elasticity of silent blocks is discussed. An analytical assessment of controllability and observability for all models is carried out.
