This paper presents a study of the evolution of a driver's behaviour during one hour on a driving simulator. Ten drivers are involved in the study and have to 'drive' on a highway including a series of straight lines and more or less sharp curves. Variables recorded are: steering wheel angle, speed and positions of the head (horizontal, vertical and transversal). The methodological aspect of the exploitation of such data is stressed. This encompasses: - methods encountered in bibliography related to car driving and to data analysis in general have been compiled in a panorama; - a statistical approach has been selected, precising ans justifying choices. The latter are: a) characterization of signals in temporal windows using average and standard deviation while distinguishing straight lines and curves; b) homogenization of these indicators using a fuzzy encoding; c) application of the multiple correspondance analysis. Two analyses have been proposed: one with a global encoding, that is to say identical for every subject; the other with a local coding, that is adapted to each individual. The first analysis points out major differences between individuals, concealing the influence of time. The second, using a local coding, points out this influence. Perspectives drawn from the results of the analysis and from an algorithm for an automatic detection of drowsiness are then considered for a use in situ.
