Two types of narrowbeam systems are compared: an umbrella-type beam produced by a linear array, and a conical searchlight-type beam produced by a planar array. Specular and nonspecular reflections are considered. It is shown that in both instances, the linear array offers better performance in rejecting multipath than a planar array with the same number of elements.
