With the increasing complexity of the electrical systems on modern passenger vehicles, the traditional wiring harness is reaching the limit of its development. The primary problem areas with the traditional wiring concept are outlined, and possible solutions are discussed. These include improved wire technology, system integration and both parallel and serial networks. Serial networks are considered to be the most attractive solution, and these are discussed in detail.
